Our Certified Medical Assisting program prepares students to sit for the NCCT National Certification Exam to become a Certified Medical Assistant and to jump start their career in healthcare.

The Certified Medical Assisting Program is designed to prepare medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession. This hands-on, career-focused program equips students with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in today’s fast-paced healthcare environment.

Through engaging classroom instruction and practical training, students learn to take vital signs; assist with physical exams and minor surgical procedures; perform EKGs, venipuncture, injections, and basic laboratory tests; and manage front-office responsibilities such as receptionist duties, appointment scheduling, and patient record management. With 720 hours of classroom learning and a 160-hour supervised externship, students gain meaningful real-world experience and professional readiness in as little as 9–10 months.

Students who meet all academic, attendance, and professionalism requirements—and who successfully pass the national certification examination—earn their Certified Medical Assistant Certificate of Competency, demonstrating mastery of the core competencies essential to the field.

Prerequisites

Thank you for your interest in enrolling in the SoCal ROC Certified Medical Assisting program.

In order to enroll in the program, students must:

Be at least 18 years old
Provide proof of a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA or GED (translated into English)
Sign a Student Waiver and Release Form
MUST show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination
Purchase of apparel and materials is required. Please contact registration for full list.
Notice: Nail extension of any kind (i.e. Acrylics/Extensions/Gel-X/Gel Builder) is not allowed while enrolled in the program due to sanitary purposes and industry standards.

Prior to the commencement of the second semester of the course, students must submit the following prerequisites:

Proof of a NEGATIVE MANTOUX TEST or NEGATIVE CHEST X-RAY (Must be current in
order to extern, within 3 months of extern start date)
Proof of completing the HEPATITIS B vaccine series (3 injections) or sign a vaccine waiver
Proof of the VARICELLA and Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) vaccines or sign a vaccine waiver
Proof of the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough booster) vaccine
Proof of current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers and First Aid cards only

The following requirements must be met to receive a Certificate of Competency from SoCal ROC:

Students must complete 720 hours of classroom instruction.
Students may not miss more than 5 days of class instruction. All absences must be made up with approval of the instructor to ensure that the student completes the 720 hour CAAHEP requirement.
Students must earn an A or B in the class.
Students must complete 160 unpaid hours of supervised externship (OJT).
Students must apply for and pass the national CMA (NCCT) Certification Examination. The fee for the exam is included in the course fee.
In order to apply for the national exam, the applicant must provide a Social Security number on the application form.

Schedule

Complete in 2 Semesters:

Classroom meetings: Monday - Thursday from 8:00am - 3:00pm

Externship: Monday - Friday, clinic hours (8 hours/day), for 5 - 6 weeks, at the end of the course.

SoCal ROC's CAAHEP-accredited Medical Assisting program has a 5-year average retention rate of 81.94%, and a job placement rate of 72.46% for the years 2019-2023.

This Certified Medical Assisting program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), on recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).

Students will be awarded course credits upon completion of the program.
