Course Outlines are developed with the cooperation of industry representatives from the career area for which the courses are designed. All course outlines are approved by the Board of Education and certified by the California Department of Education. All course outlines are aligned to the California Career Technical Education Model Curriculum Standards and California State Content Standards in Language Arts and Mathematics.

The Exciting World of Engineering

This is a one-semester overview course designed to excite interest in engineering. Students will be guided through the theory of specific engineering concepts and then participate in hands-on activities where they apply and experience each concept. Sample projects from several engineering disciplines include bridge building, sensors and robotics, hydraulics, sound transmission, strength of materials, motors, heat transfer, friction, and energy conversion. In addition, students will learn other critical aspects of being an engineer, i.e., working in teams, communicating effectively, accountability, ethics, and entrepreneurship. A different engineering concept and project will be completed approximately each week.
